Obesity in dogs is a huge medical problem.  Dogs overweight are more at risk in surgery, injuries, and have more stress on heart, lungs, liver, kidney, and joints.
Most pets are overweight due to the fact that they are fed table foods in which humans do not consume.  Overweight animals come from humans not taking care of there pets properly.

How can you tell if your pet is over weight?
When you look at your dog, you shouldn't be able to see its ribs, but you should be able to feel them. Your dogs abdomen should be tucked up behind the ribs. When looking down at your dog at his back, there should be an indentation between the ribs and the hips.
If your dog is winded and having trouble transition from lying down to standing up, and has trouble climbing, then this probably means your dog is overweight.

How can your pet lose weight?
Going for a walk with your pet daily. Increasing your pets daily activity. Giving your pet treats that are more healthy for them, rather than giving them your leftovers from dinner. Going to your veterinarian and having your pet put onto a special diet.
